In stark musical contrast to his first professional UK tour as bass player
with BOBBY VEE, Paul made his first American tour with Keef Hartley’s
DOG SOLDIER in 1974, supporting John Mayall.

He taught himself to play keyboards, and wrote and recorded 2 albums with
THE BLISS BAND for CBS Records in 1978 & ’79 (the first - Dinner With Raoul - produced by Steely Dan guitarist Jeff ‘Skunk’ Baxter) and toured with many artists including  - THE HOLLIES, DAVID ESSEX, SHEENA EASTON and GERARD KENNY.

In 1983, following a #2 chart hit in the USA (Olivia Newton-John’s ‘Heart Attack’) Paul took a break from touring to concentrate on his career as a songwriter, and artists as diverse as OLIVIA NEWTON-JOHN, JANET JACKSON,
URIAH HEEP, AL JARREAU, GRAHAM NASH, CELINE DION,
JUSTIN HAYWARD, BARBARA DICKSON, SARAH BRIGHTMAN
and THE HOLLIES - to name but a few - recorded his songs.

During this time he also enjoyed great success as a writer with Japanese superstar SEIKO MATSUDA, and composed music for TV drama, commercials and a complete score for the hit children’s TV show STARFLEET, the title song of which was covered by legendary QUEEN guitarist BRIAN MAY.

Finally emerging from the studio in 1989 he toured again with THE HOLLIES and ELAINE PAIGE before starting a 19-year tenure with THE MOODY BLUES after working in the studio with them on the ‘Keys Of The Kingdom’ album.

Paul also wrote and recorded songs for JUSTIN HAYWARDS’ solo album ‘The View From The Hill’ and played on his solo tours alongside drummer
Gordy Marshall.
